Lou Gehrig, the "Iron Horse" played in a then-record 2,130
consecutive games, hitting nearly 500 home runs in the process,
before the debilitating disease made 1939 his final season. On
July 4, 1939, Gehrig gave one the most famous farewell speeches of
all time, before leaving the Yankees. In 1939, the Yankees became the first team in history to win the World Series for a
